Every brand is making silk scarves for this fall. They look great and can be used in many different ways. My favorite material for scarves is silk, but they're also made with cotton and cashmere. Cashmere will keep you the warmest.

There are many different styles to choose from; funky, fun, elegant and more. The scarf is a great accessory that can be used as part of an outfit while keeping you warm on a fall day. For an edgy or more hip look, you should wear the scarf in a loose way that hangs naturally. Always use a loop for it to sit on your neck. This look is very popular amongst celebrities.

Then there's a more traditional look or business look that the scarf can create. They often look like a tie if they're done right and are great for upscale events. You can wear a simple scarf to a business meeting or to a nice dinner.

Tuxedo jackets are another item that are a must have this fall. Women who have worn a jacket to create the "boyfriend jacket" are happy about this! This is a more tailored look that can be worn in a fun way or even a business way as well.

One of the great things about a tuxedo jacket is the look changes depending on what you wear it with. To dress it up, it looks great with a cocktail dress and high heels. For a business look, combine it with slim slacks and high heels. Or for a night out with friends, it can look great with just a t-shirt and skinny jeans.

Celebrating Independently-Minded Women In America

Fighting For Women's Rights & Education

From early on, women bought for their rights – whether it was to own land, to give girls the opportunity for a good education, or for equal rights in the workplace. Here are some women who stand out in history:

Margaret Brent: In 1639, Brent became the first female landowner in Maryland. A close friend of Governor Leonard Calvert, he appointed her the executor of his estate. The Provincial Court appointed Brent as Lord Baltimore's attorney-in-fact in 1648 and, as part of her duties, she made sure soldiers were paid and fed and her actions helped to avoid mutiny in the colony. She was a significant finding settler of both Maryland and Virginia. She was also the first woman in North America to appear before a common law court.

Sarah Josepha Hale: The author of the nursery rhyme "Mary had a little lamb" was a fierce supporter of education for girls. After her husband's death in 1822, Hale launched her writing and magazine editing career to support her five children. She was instrumental in changing minds to allow girls into professions like teaching, and later medicine.

"In this age of innovation during no experience will have an influence more important on the character and happiness of our society than the granting to females the advantages of a systematic and thorough education." – Sarah Josepha Hale

Gloria Steinem: In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Steinem became nationally recognized as the spokeswoman for the feminist movement. She is a journalist and social and political activist and is currently speaking about the issues of equality through the world.

In 1920, American women got the right to vote – after 70 years of fighting for this right. Over the years, there were many women who helped fight for the right to vote. Here we highlight some of the most prominent:

Lucy Stone: In 1847, Stone became the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree. She was a vocal advocate for women's rights and the abolition of slavery at a time when women were discouraged and even preverted to speak in public. Stone kept her maiden name after her marriage – something that was strictly frowned upon at the time. She founded the Woman's Journal, a weekly magazine about women's rights.

Lucretius Mott: Mott believed that the roles women played in society at the time were due to limited education, not inferiority. She supported equal political rights and economic opportunities.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton: Stanton helped form the first women's rights convention in 1848, with Lucretia Mott.

"Self-development is a higher duty than self-sacrifice." – Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Women In Politics

Not so long ago, women were not allowed to participate in political affairs. Here are some women who helped change the gender gap in politics:

Jeannette Rankin: Selected in 1916, Rankin was the first woman in Congress. Prior to joining Congress, she was a professional lobbyist for the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), and her efforts helped women in Montana to gain the vote in 1914.

"I may be the first woman member of Congress, but I will not be the last." – Jeannette Rankin

Eleanor Roosevelt: The wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, she dramatically changed the role of the first lady through her active participation in American politics. During her husband's presidency, Roosevelt wrote a newspaper column, cave press conferences, and spoke about human rights, children's causes, and women's issues. After his death, she became the delegate to the United Nations and served from 1945 to 1953. She also served as the chair of the UN's Human Rights Commission.

"Women are like teabags. You do not know how strong they are until you put them in hot water." – Eleanor Roosevelt

Madeleine Albright: In 1993, Albright became the US Ambassador to the United Nations. In 1997, she was appointed as the first female US Secretary of State. In 2012, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Albright holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, as well as numerous honorary degrees.

Women In Sports, Adventure, And Entertainment

A woman can hold their own when it comes to adventure, entertainment, and sports. Here are some of the women who excelled:

Amelia Earhart: An aviation pioneer, author, and idol to many, Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She helped form The Ninety-Nines, an organization supporting female pilots. She was also an adviser to the aeronautical engineering faculty at Purdue University and a career counselor to female students. In 1937, she disappeared near Howland Island during an attempt to make a circumnavigation flight of the globe.

"The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune." – Amelia Earhart

Florence Chadwick: Chadwick was 32 years old when she became the first woman to swim the English Channel both ways in 1951. She attempted the crossing ten times, of which she successfully completed four legs.

Katherine Hepburn: This leading lady was known for her fiercely independence and outspoken personality. Hepburn wore trousers before it was fashionable for women to do so and lived her life independently and out of the spotlight. During her career of more than 60 years, Hepburn won four Academy Awards for Best Actress. She died in 2003.

High-Achievers

Many women have great results every day, but here are some pioneers:

Bridget 'Biddy' Mason: Born a slave, Biddy had to fight for her freedom in an LA court in 1856. California, where she lived at the time, was a free state, but her 'owner', Smith, wanted to move them to Texas, where slaves were not free, to sell his slaves there. After winning in court and becoming free, she worked in Los Angeles as a nurse and midwife. She became one of the first African-Americans to purchase land in the city. A real-estate businesswoman, she accrued a reliably large fortune for the time – nearly $ 300,000 – which she generously shared with charities.

Ellen Swallow Richards: Richards was an industrial and environmental chemist, and the first to apply chemistry to the study of nutrition. She was the first woman admitted to any school of science and technology in America, and also the first woman to obtain a degree in chemistry. She graduated from MIT in 1872.

Winifred Edgerton Merril: Merrill was the first woman in the US to obtain a Ph.D. in Mathematics and the first to receive a degree from Columbia University. She achieved her Ph.D. with high honors in 1886. She was instrumental in the formation of the Barnard College in 1889, New York's first institution to award women a degree in liberal arts. She also founded the Oaksmere School for Girls in 1906.

Elizabeth Blackwell: In 1849, Blackwell became the first female physician in the US and the first woman listed on the UK Medical Register. Originally born in Britain, Blackwell had to fight to get permission to study and work in the medical field. She advocated for the education of women in medicine.

Sandra Day O'Connor: Appointed in 1981, O'Connor became the first woman justice on the US Supreme Court, a position she held for 24 years.

Golden Tips for Wearing Plus-Size Fashion in Style

Gone are times when the fashion industry was inclined towards petite women. Today, plus size women have enough choices in terms of brands and labels, if not more. However, before you shop for plus-size clothing, we have a few tips right below for your help.

Dress Your Size!

That’s the most important rule for any woman, regardless of her shape and current weight. You have to wear something that fits you perfectly. Keep in mind that you cannot hide your body forever, but yes, it is possible to mask the extra pounds. Nevertheless, make sure that you choose a size that fits you. The best idea is to buy two sizes at the same time. You can keep the one that fits you for your current closet, and the other one can inspire you to get leaner.

Wear Your Age!

Yes, that’s right! If you are just 29, you don’t need to dress like 35, just because of your weight. Fashion is all about balancing comfort and style, and it is important to experiment. Try to wear clothes that flatter your body, irrespective of your age. Nothing is off-limits for any lady out there. The only thing you need is confidence in your own style, and if you have that, everything will look as good as expected.

Buy Online!

If you are looking for more choices in plus size dresses for women, it’s best to check online. There are some amazing brands on the web, and some of them ship in all parts of the globe. Instead of choosing a name that makes regular clothes, it is wise to choose a brand that understands and reflects the needs of plus-sized women. You will find more options in prints, sizes, and styles, depending on your requirements.

Follow the Rules!

Some fashion rules are forever. If you love wearing stripes, vertical stripes will look better than horizontal ones. Also, thinner stripes will make you look leaner than big and broad lines. You also need to try darker colors, especially for the evenings. For those who are not fond of black for that leaning effect, navy blue and shades of dark green are the next best options. You also need to try new prints. Smaller prints will surely look better, but again, there are no hard norms to follow in this regard.

Be Open to Ideas!

Follow the leading fashion blogs and websites to find new ideas on plus-size fashion. The trends change every season, so you will find something new to suit your personal style. Experts and fashion gurus advise on trying seasonal ideas because you will find more options. It is also a nice thought to think of classics. Basically, you need to have the right essentials for work and casual days, and once you have the basics, you can keep buying new stuff that meets your fashion demands.

Some women just don’t have petite frames, but that should never really hamper fashion choices. Take a check online and we promise you will find enough for every other day!

The only tough part is getting started. If you are not a programmer, designer or familiar with photo-editing, you are not going to feel comfortable, and you will not know where to get started. But do not worry, we've come up with three easy steps you can take to start you on your way to becoming a true fashionista.

STEP 1: MASTER THE IN-GAME FASHION DESIGNER: The first step in becoming a fashion designer in SL is to get used to the in-game fashion designer. Open the appearance tool (either through the top-menu or by right-clicking on your avatar) and you can edit a multitude of different factors of your avatar's appearance. To change clothing, or design new ones, you'll need to get familiar with the texture and color menu's. Once you get comfortable with the in-game designer, you can move on to the next step.

STEP 2: GET PHOTO-EDITING: To move past the simple designs you can make through the appearance editor, you'll need to get some photo-editing software. Although many of these programs can run $ 300 or more, we've found an alternative that is just as good. If you want to start designing fashion seriously, you'll need The GIMP. ( http://www.gimp.org/ ). This freeware is just as good as the commercial software out there, and there is a very active and helpful community of Gimp users that can help you. Download Gimp and learn how to use some of the features. After you do this, you are ready to move on

STEP 3: GET TEMPLATES: To use Gimp (or other photo-editing software) to design clothes for SL, you'll need some templates. A template is simply a 3-D rendering that can be laid over an avatar. ( http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLTutSet.html ) This will allow you to create your very first template design: a t-shirt. The template itself is very well done, and by using layers and masks, Robin Wood has created one of the best SL Fashion aides around. Use it.

Womens Fashion Tips For Looking Great

FASHIONABLY CASUAL CHIC

Many young women are making the shift from working in an office to working at home, many of them are opting to be stay-at-home moms or to start a home business so they can be more flexible. And many offices are finally allowing women to dress more casually at work, not just on Fridays, but all week long.

While students have always been able to dress as they please, more and more young women are now finding it possible to do the same. And retailers are stepping up to meet the rising demand for chic clothes that are comfortable and easy to care for, but look fashionable and trendy too.

Even so, it can be challenging to put together a unique wardrobe that is functional and looks good, too. If you are new to the work-at-home scene or a new mom, you may find yourself with a closet full of business wear and insufficient sportswear. What was once enough for weekends does not go very far when it becomes a daily thing. So, besides going shopping, how do you assemble a wardrobe of casual, comfy but fashionable pieces you can quickly pull together in the morning and still look great all day?

Start with what you love. You are now free to wear whatever you want, so get clear about what that is, You should already have some idea of your favorite looks from a quick check of your play clothes. And here’s a list of basics that will give you style, comfort, options and versatility.

(1) An assortment of cute tees, tanks and tops. Buy only those you love. You are dressing to please yourself. So remember, if you don’t feel good in it, it’s probably not worth a second look

(2) Jeans, khakis, cropped and yoga pants in neutral colors that will mix well with your tops. Straight-leg pants are best but you can throw in a few flairs or baggies for diversion. Add a few short cotton or khaki a-line skirts for days you want to look more girlie. You can also add a longer print skirt, but make sure it’s easy care and looks good wrinkled. Indian print skirts are ideal for this purpose. Finally, find a few pairs of shorts with a comfortable fit.

(3) Assorted active wear for cooler weather. Add a few sweater dresses to wear with leggings or tights for a change of pace. Long knit tunic tops work well with skinny jeans and leggings, too. You’ll need a few cardigans in neutral or jewel tones. Wear the neutrals over colors and the jewel tones over black. For comfort and warmth, add some colorful leg warmers, like those featured in the Marc by Marc Jacobs fall collection.

(4) Sundresses that can be dressed up or down, one in basic black. Sundresses can also be covered with a light cardigan or shawl when the weather turns cool.

(5) One casual blazer to wear over a tee when you want to look businesslike. A basic black outerwear jacket with a fashionable cut to go with everything in cold climates, or a light suede or leather jacket for mild winters. In chilly locales, augment the jacket with a great knit hat, some colorful knit scarves, and one great pair of gloves.

(6) Cheap jewelry to amuse yourself when you grow bored with your outfits. A selection of inexpensive ballet flats in colors, a few pair of flip-flops and some Keds in a bright color. Don’t forget an all-purpose bag. You may want to recycle your college backpack (great for stashing while shopping and it doubles as a diaper bag). Add a quality shoulder bag that goes everywhere and a small black clutch for evenings out.

(7) Fashionable claw-clips to pull your hair up and assorted ponytail bands for quick hair fixes.

(8) A plaid flannel work shirt (steal one from your boyfriend, husband or dad) to substitute for a cardigan or jacket.

(9) A baseball cap for bad hair days and a great pair of sunglasses.

(10) Recycle any business wear that can go casual. Some tanks and tees may work as well with jeans as with business suits, and you will save yourself from feeling like they are going to waste.

With casual clothes, it’s best to stay in the low to moderate price range unless you have unlimited resources. Think Macy’s, Dillards, department store junior departments, Target, J.C. Penney and Forever 21. All these retailers have an extensive, affordable and every-changing selection of trendy but inexpensive casual clothes. You can also find things online. And if you live in the city, shop street vendors for unique styles and colors where you can even haggle about price if you feel in the mood.

How to Become a Successful Fashion Designer

If you are like me you live and breathe fashion. You are constantly impressed with so many new designs racing through your mind, so many you can not seem to get them all down quick enough at the pace they arrive. You constantly dream of the day your fashions will be on the fashion runway with the lights beaming brightly overhead, the cameras flashing everywhere and the audience being completely mesmerized by your incredible designs. You can not stop thinking of the day you will open a magazine or watch the Oscars and see a famous celebrity in one of your breathtaking designs. Your book shelf is stocked with fashion books and magazines, and you absolutely can not resist visiting textile stores to view all the latest fabrics, decorative beads, rhinestones and trims.

It's this ever present dream of being a successful fashion designer that has you work day and night on your designs in most cases for many years without pay and working a job to pay the pills which is brutal torture, when all you can think about is living and working in fashion.

Famous fashion designers come from all walks of life there is no one system to follow that will have you become the next famous fashion designer. Some have graduated from elite fashion schools and some have never attended fashion school. Some have undertaken a fashion internship with a fashion house and others have made their own designs in their basement. The only elements all these fashion designers have in common is that they had an intense passion for fashion, were able to design fashions very well after and connected with someone who got them the opportunity to break into the fashion industry. It is essential in becoming a successful fashion designer you get you and your designs out there as much as possible, as how will anyone know about your fashions if they can not see them?

In getting your fashions out there here are a few things you can do:

1. We are not usually good at everything some of us are great at designing clothes but lack the sewing and pattern making skills. It is here you can partner with someone who shares your passion for fashion and has the skills you lack. It is in the bringing together of different skills you can create a real product that can be showcased.
2. In having a fashion line of 14 outfits you can apply to your local fashion week. In the USA: New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco all have fashion weeks. These fashion weeks attract many editors, journalists and local socialites who will see your fashions and potentially give you the exposure you need to get known.
3. Many city nights clubs hold fashion shows, find out what night clubs hold fashion shows and contact them as to how you can be apart of an up and coming show.
4. Locate fashion boutiques that cater to the fashions you design, first make a trip to the stores to look around, if you can see your clothes fitting in well with the store, find out who the owner is and ask if they would be willing to have some of your fashions offered for sale in their store. You will be amazed at how many store owners are willing to work with you. I walked around San Francisco in the Nob Hill district and had my fashions placed after visiting and discussing my product with four boutiques. In having your fashions displayed you will receive valuable insights as to whether or not your designs are in demand and if you need to change your designs to increase sales. It will also give you free exposure to the public. When your fashions do sell you can present this to investors who are more than willing to invest in your line, when you prove the existence of a strong demand for your fashions.
